The third film in the John Wick franchise reportedly has a director and an expected start date for principal photography. What’s more, several cast members from the past films may return for the latest chapter.
According to That Hashtag Show, Chad Stahelski — who co-directed John Wick: Chapter 1 with David Leitch and helmed John Wick: Chapter 2 — will return to direct the third installment in the franchise. Lawrence Fishburne, Common and Ruby Rose will allegedly return as well, reprising their roles as the Bowery King, Cassian and Ares respectively.
The film is expected to introduce new characters as well, with the main antagonist rumored to be a head of a Japanese crime syndicate; this villain role will reportedly be filled by Hiroyuki Sanada, who previously worked with Keanu Reeves on 47 Ronin. The studio is also searching for an actor in her late 20s to early 40s to star opposite Reeves. Reeves has previously shown interest in bringing Tilda Swinton into the franchise, though it appears unlikely that Swinton will fill this particular role.
Principal photography on John Wick 3 is expected to begin on March 1 in New York City. Russia and Spain are listed as additional filming locations. John Wick 3 is slated to hit theaters on May 17, 2019.
